campaign research

The campaign was brought out by the a United Nations and called 'Unite' to End Violence Against Women. The United Nations have used the poster to promote the campaign. The poster has lots of different images of people, including children on it. The people are from different countries. On one side of the poster the images blend with yellow background. The title of the campaign is written in white capital letters apart from the 'i' and underneath is the United Nations logo. There is a wavy line running through the writing and at the bottom of the page the word 'Unite' is written again and blends into the orange background. A steeping line devides the page horizontally. There is a website at the bottom of the page.

This campaign began in 2008 and its aim was to End Violence Against Women all over the world.
Unite has asked governments, civil societies, women's organizations, young people, the media and the UN to work together to prevent Violence Against Women and girls.
By 2015, Unite aims to achieve these objective cross the world. they want to:
  • To bring in and enforce laws to address Violence Against Women.
  • To bring in an national action plans.
  • To collect information to increase public Violence Agains Women and girls.
The range of media campaign use is campaign poster, webcast, mutimedia, press materials and the internet.

The name of the campaign is Turn A Life Around was brought by "The Sheriff's And Recorder's Fund". They want to raise money for the ex-prisoners and families to stop them committing crime again, help them change their life and provide money for training etc. The campaign wants to raise public awareness and get them to donate money to the campaign.

The poster has two sides. The left hand side shows the tie which represents a job interview and a change in the pprisoners' live when they leave prison.
On the right hand side the image is turned up side down to show the tie hanging like a noose and I think it's very effective because it represents the prisoners with no hope for their life. By turning the poster around it shows that by giving money to help these people you can turn their life around. The poster is effective because it is appealing to peoples' emotions.
The poster is very effective  because it quite simple; it has black and brown colours on a white background. The text is black and the title is in capitals and it stands out with simple explainations underneath. On the right hand side there is a logo, website, telephone number.

The main message of the poster is to stop bullying. The poster is aimed at everybody. The poster is relevant to a number of situations. For example, to raise awareness of bullying in schools, in the work place and even outside on the streets etc. The young women's poster design was picked out from more than 100 entries in YWCA's national competition.Young women teamed up with Stagecoach Northampton and Yorkshire to spread anti-bullying messages across the region this month with a poster campaign. They put the poster on Stagecoach buses in Nothampton and Yorkshire for YWCA. The range of media used was posters on busues and the internet. By putting the poster on buses the campaign's mesage would reach a local community. People using the buses or walking along the street would see the poster. Advertising it on the internet introduces it to a much wider world wide audience. The poster is very colourful showing an image of a fist coming out of a mouth. The word 'stop' is printed on the fist. There are two speech bubbles with anti-bullying messages. In the background of one of the speech bubbles are symbols of an expletive/abusive language. The poster would appeal to teenagers because of the language used - words like 'cool'. I think this poster is effective because it is colourful, and the messages are clear and relevant to teenagers. However, everyone would understand the message. It is difficult to assess whether the campaign was successful as there is no criteria to measure the outcome.  However, it can only be a good message to get across to people that bullying is not acceptable in any situation.

Anti Drugs

I think that this is an affective poster because the text is directed at the reader and asks them the question: ‘Who or what may be affected’. Underneath is the answer: that drugs affect ‘everything, everyone, every time’. So the message of the poster is clear that drugs not only affect the user but also the people around them such as their family and friends. The final piece of text warns: ‘Don’t let it throw our future away’. The use of black, red and blue coloured font makes the text stand out against the white background. The word ‘yes’ is particularly emphasised as it is in large font with an exclamation mark. The smaller text written in black gives more detail about how drugs affect lives. For example, it affects people’s jobs and businesses as well as anyone they my come into contact with. The right side of the poster is covered with torn snippets of photographs showing happy images of families including children and adults. The torn images could be symbolic of lives being torn apart by drugs. This is an affective way to get the anti drugs message across.

Task 1

I used keynote presentation to produce my plan to making a CD cover. Firstly I researched pictures on the internet. Then I chose two images and used these for my CD cover presentation.
This CD cover shows us the four members of the ‘Beatles’ crossing the road with trees and cars on either side and a clear blue sky.
E.g. this Cd cover is of the ‘Beatles’ from which I have taken the idea of close up pictures and background.
I am going to take a picture for the background to my CD cover. The background will be of a small cottage, green scenery, a road and blue sky similar to the Cd cover of the band. I will take pictures of 5 students which I am going to use as close up pictures.
For my task 1 I am going to make a CD cover. I need a camera to take the pictures. I will take close up pictures of five different people from different angles for my Cd cover on Friday 23rd October, 2009. I am going to take the picture for the background on Tuesday 3 November, 2009 for my Cd cover.

CD cover

This is the CD cover I made it is called  ‘Friends’ because as I took this pictures I was not quite sure what I was trying to do. But later I decided that its better to reference towards relationships which I decided to do is friends. I made this cover to make it more fresh and simple Cd cover to show friendship in the front view and as for background which reflects a clean and happy greenery environment and good friendship. I used this concept to acknowledge in more in friends as one group of girls smiling together and other two images which is of a one boy and a girl are also smiling shown in the picture shows that even if they are far away they are still have friendship towards each other. The Cd cover is quite simple but it has a good expression to focus on relationship in friends whether they are simple or different in culture. The Cd cover is aimed at young people. I kept a frame on three girls to make a remembrance photo as it is shown. The font I used in the centre part of the CD cover is the title called ‘Friends’ to show that it is about good companion in good relationship.
As for this CD cover the main point is to describe friends like a ‘yellow moon’ because moon changes simultaneously everyday in each year as it gets darker and turns brighter when it is full moon so when friends grow up every year everything change so even friends are distant away there still interaction with and may have strong bond with each other.
I used fireworks to make it by using layers. Firstly I put on the background picture. Then I put the three close up pictures together and took out the background by using magic wand, lasso and a eraser. I made three close up picture smaller and place them at the top. I put close up of the girl on the right hand side and made it little bit bigger than the other three pictures. On the left hand sides I put close up picture of the boy and made it bigger than all the others.

Unit 2 The Script

The Stranger

This is the story of a teenage girl whose life going smoothly.
Her name was Lauren and she was always on the computer.... in the daytime, after school, she was in an internet cafe' and in the evening she was at home. If she had homework from school or something to study, she was used to do everything at school or late in the night.
One day she was in the internet cafe' (sound effect of a crowded place and someone typing something at the computer) (the noise of a crowd and of a door that opens and closes frequently goes throughout the story) when she signed up on a website that changed her life. That website was "FACEBOOK". While Lauren was using Facebook one of her friends entered the cafe to greet her. (sound effect of a door that opens)(recorded sound effect of someone walking into a cafe)
"Hi darling are you Ok?"
"Yeah and you?"
"I'm good"
"What are you doing?"
"Ooh I'm using Facebook..... I just signed in..... I think you too have to join it"
"Yeah maybe ... but not today... you know some people, and I repeat, some people spend some hours for studying and now I have to go home."
"Ok sweetie bye" "go and study!"
"Bye"(sound effect of someone walking out of the cafe and of a door that opens and closes)
Everyday she was having many friends on Facebook.
One day she received a friends request from someone who claimed to be her friend.
She accepted the request.
He wrote her sweet things and she liked it.
"Ooh this guy is so sweet! No one has ever been so nice to me!'
She believed all his words. ( there is a pause of 5 seconds: the sound of the crowd and of the door stops)
One day he decided to give her a date .... in his house.
Some day later Lauren's friend called her on her mobile:"hey... how are you?"
"Fine and you?"
"So so... how I feel depends from what you'll soon tell me!"
"What's the matter?"
"You know the guy you told me about the other day?"
"Yes .... and then?"
"Someone told me ..., correct me if I'm wrong , that he gave you a date at his house and you accepted... is it true?"
"Who told you that?"
"It doesn't matter.... I just want to know if it's true."
(no sound during these last beats)
"So?"
"Yes,... it's true."
"Are you mad? You don't even know him!"
"Well I don't think it's your business, after all I am the one who has a date!"
"Don't go, you don't really know him....what if something happens to you?...don't go... ."  She continued telling her this , Lauren always replied saying"don't worry.... nothing will happen to me!", and at the end her friend gave in.
Lauren liked him and trusted him so much that she was determined to go.
(recorded sound effect of an outdoor ambient with cars going on the road and some other noise) That day of the date she left home in time. ( the sound of someone walking in a street) (sound of someone knocking at a door and after the noise of the door that squeaks) (a door opens) She entered in his house and it was in darkness................. (recorded sound effect of someone walking in a room with fear) ( the door shuts) and never came out.

Guide book

This task was to make a guide book to the Southbank for 16 to 19 year olds. As a class we went to the Southbank centre and collected leaflets  and took photographs of places which would attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used Fireworks to make the guide book because I have used it before and found it easier to use than Pages.

Firstly, I thought about attractions on the Southbank for 16 to 19 year olds then I chose places which would be attractive to this age group. I researched on the internet and found images of these attractions to use on the guide. I decided to include London Aquarium, London Eye, Movieum, National Theatre, Royal Festival Hall, skateboading and a map.

On the front cover I used an image of the Southbank which I then put into Fireworks. I used this image on the front because it shows the Southbank and it has bright colours and it looks different which I think will attract 16-19 years old. I wrote the title of the guide in red and gold colours which I think stand out against the background. I used Chancery font, mostly in capital letters, because I liked it and thought it was interesting.

Next, I looked on the internet again and found a background image which I then put on to half a page of Fireworks by using layers. The other half of the page I made a black background. Then I put the image to the London Aquarium into Fireworks and put it on top using layers. I used this image on the second page because it has a bright colours and it looks good and attractive which I think 16 to 19 years old will like. I continued with Chancery font for the writing because I wanted to use the same font for the whole guide. In the heading I chose two colours, blue with a white outline and for the rest of the text I used white. I tried different colours but I decided on white because I think it is clearer to understand than other colours.

For my third page I used the London Eye. I used the images which I had found and I made up the page by using layers. I used four different images including the London Eye, a Christmas tree and the river Thames. I chose these because they show the London Eye and the view across London. I also like them because they are night time pictures which makes the London Eye look more exciting. In the heading I used two colours, red and white which stand out against the background and for the rest of the text I used black and white which I think is clear to read.

On the fourth page I used the Movieum. I used a variety of images and showed lots of information which I had found on Movieum website.  I took time to decide what to include and where to put them, then I built up the page by using layers. I chose Terminator and Star Wars because I think it will attract the 16 to 19 year olds. I also included the Beatles exhibition because I think the target audience would like to see that. I used the white colour for text because there was already white text in the images which I had used.

For the fifth page I used the National Theatre. I used four images and I used one image of the National Theatre for my background. Two images I used were of the play ' Mixed up North' and one image was of a free exhibition called' Dazzle' about jewellery which I think would attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used white for the text which stands out against the background. On this page I included border designs and images from Brochure which I had started to use for my guide, but then I changed my mind because I couldn't make the flyer with it. I used these images  because I think it makes this page look different and good.

For the sixth page I used the Royal Festival Hall. I used the images which I had found and made up the page by using layers. I used two images one for the background and the other of a concert and used mostly white and some green for the Chancery text.

The last attraction was Skateboarding and I used four images for this page using layers. I used bright and colourful images to attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used red, white and yellow for the text but there is not much writing on this page because I wanted to make it simple and straightforward.

Lastly, I researched on the internet and found a background image for the back page. Using layers  I put the image on one side of the page and the other side I made it black. On top of this I put a map to show where the Southbank is. On this page I wrote information about the website, email address and parking.

Overall I think my guide was  quite successful and I think most of the attractions will appeal to the 16 to 19 age group. I gave the right information about the prices, websites, phone numbers and information on the attractions was simple and clear. Researching on the internet for the right information for the attractions was interesting but I found it hard to write about them and it took a long time. I learned how to make the guide and flyer. If I had to improve it I would change some of the attractions, images and the colour of the text.
